How do I lose weight?

I get asked this question, everyday. Jane, how do I lose weight? The answer is pretty simple. Avoid excessive calorie intake and get moving. If you still have trouble losing weight, there might be a reason. The Revive RX team are here to help you identify possible obstacles and overcome them.

Here are some things you can do, right now, to get started?

1. Drink water!

All of my patients know that I encourage everyone to drink half of their bodyweight in water. The above infographic demonstrates why. Water is important to keep our vital organs running smoothly. Water is a vital source of energy for the body. When you don't drink enough water you can feel tired. You can also have more food cravings when you are even mildly dehydrated. That is our body asking for more nutrients to function properly. Also, when you don't drink enough water the blood becomes thicker, placing a person at higher risk for elevated blood pressures and chronic illness. Lastly, when you are dehydrated (even mildly) the body concerns water for vital organs and slows other non-vital organ functioning down. The gut is one of these organs that the body will pull water from to concern for vital organs.

I have tried to make it easy for you to grab my favorite water bottle (made of glass, not plastic)

Symptoms of dehydration include; feeling thirsty, headache or dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, dry skin, and/or constipation.

2. Control the 3 hormones that cause weight gain; Estrogen, Insulin and Cortisol.

How to lower Estrogen:

  • Have a bowel movement everyday
  • Detoxify the liver
  • Drink Water
  • Perform HIIT exercises instead of long extended cardio
  • Take Epsom Salt baths
  • Balance the gut bacteria with prebiotic/probiotic. (we carry a pre-probiotic at the Medical Spa)
  • Avoid unnecessary hormones (birth control)
  • Avoid exposure to plastics, pesticides and personal care products with harmful chemicals.

3. How to keep Cortisol in check:

  • Get adequate sleep
  • Avoid excessive caffeine- especially in the afternoon
  • Smile and laugh
  • Avoid harmful thinking/thoughts
  • Surround yourself with healthy relationships
  • Resolve feelings of guilt
  • Take care of a pet

4. How to Lower insulin naturally:

  • Get adequate sleep (same as above)
  • Eat more soluble fiber
  • Get more exercise
  • Drink Green Tea
  • Drink Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Cook with Turmeric, Garlic and Ginger
  • Add more colorful fruits and vegetables to your diet

5. What Hormones do you need to lose weight?

  • IGF (Insulin-like growth factor)
  • DHEA
  • Testosterone
  • Thyroid

6. Treat Vitamin D deficiency!

Vitamin D deficiency can indirectly cause weight gain by increasing depression, instigating bone mass loss, and causing tiredness or fatigue. It is also imperative for immune system support which is vital this time of year, as well as, during the COVID pandemic. We carry Vitamin A, D K at the Medical Spa or you may need a prescription strength Vitamin D. We will decide how strong of a dosage you need after your consultation.

Take the first step and contact us for a consultation. During this initial consultation we can draw blood to identify deficiencies mentioned above. If deficiencies are identified we will work with you to replace these deficiencies and boost the hormones and vitamins needed for weight loss.
